RIP Dual CS 620 Q.

Since the 70s, I have had a few Dual, and I still have one left that I use every week, a 704 model. Dual are still some of my preferred tables.

Hopefully the OP can find the problem with his. The fix that Montycat and lini suggested will certainly fix his problem, well providing it's the only one.

If you need more help, this is the place to ask, lots of knowledge flotting around here for the asking.
 
wrb: Actually that's not quite true - because one can still get original pimples from Fehrenbacher/Sintron. However, that type won't fit to every Dual model. And I don't know, whether Sintron would deal with customers outside of Germany - but even then the shipping & handling would probably higher than the price for the pimple...

And Dualfred still offers the original lift top pimple, which can also be used as control pimple.

Update!

Ok I took the plunge & opened her up and replaced the “pimple” with one bought on “the auction site” & automation function is semi-restored but now she creeks & groans like an old house in a hurricane.

I am assuming this is a lubrication problem somewhere in the automation mechanism.
Maybe Part 46 where the Pimple glides on needs lubrication or cleaning?

Looking at the service manual I am not sure if part 45 is what holds 46 in place. I was abel to unsnap one side of 46 to gain enough access to replace the pimple. But was worried about breaking part 46 so I didn’t try to remove it compleatly.

Still trying to find a local source for 300000 cSt to restore the cueing dampening.

I replaced the pimple & lubricated the main lever & cam gear with plastic safe white lithium grease.
Auto function is now restored :thmbsp:
But it makes some moaning/groaning sounds as the arm moves in to position.:scratch2:
I am hoping that someone here has some suggestions on other lubrication points that might help. It's not god awful but I would love to get it quieter.

Also I finally got the 300K silicone for the cueing mechanism but I am at loss as to how to replace /refill the cueing dampening mechanism or well.:confused:

I am using the service manual I found on Vinyl Engine.
It is helpful but not very detailed & a lot of it is in German.
For instance the parts list it would be more helpful if I knew what the part names were.

If anyone has a link to a more detailed service manual that would be great.

Any help or suggestions would be gratefully appreciated as is all the info I have received so far.

Maybe the steurpimpel (friction stub) is making the noise as it is pushed along the slide plate. That should soon go, if so.
You need to listen carefully to where the noise is coming from. This deck isn't a belt drive so that rules out another source.

Keeping my fingers crossed that its a break in period on the steurpimpel .
Any suggestions on the cueing damping would be great!
 
I was trying to replace the "pimple" on my 620q and, of course, I damaged something else. There are five wires that run from the power/rca lines to a circuit board and then to smaller wires. The smaller wires all came off. I have the schematic from vinyl engine but the colors aren't the same and it's in German. Can someone tell me what order they go in so I can solder then back on? The colors I have are green, blue, black, lighter green and what might be a really dark brown.

Actually, the pin that your replacement guide is mounted on needs to have the ability to move up and down depending on the pressure from the main lever. Your guide is too long, not allowing for that needed movement. Remove it, and make it 1/16" to 1/8" shorter. You will absolutely will notice an improvement.

That's so 6 years ago! I have no idea what ended up with that table, and it wasn't even the specific one the OP was talking about. :)
