If I remember correctly, JD opened for the Eagles during the "Hotel California" tour, (at Madison Wisconsin). Just him and his guitar. He said before he started playing he wasn't there for his sound check, and apologized if the sound wasn't right. RIP

Oh, man. This is an unpleasant surprise. He was planning a tour, so he didn't have an extended illness.

A brilliant songwriter and harmony singer.

I was lucky to have seen him several times. Once in the late 70s, playing solo. Then more recently he had something of a comeback and he played the Tucson Jazz Festival in a band with Billy Childs and some jazz players - everybody playing from scores like an orchestra. Must have been 2016 because he was playing songs I knew from If the World Was You and Tenderness.

Those were some great songs what a loss !

As with other artists, I create a playlist of their music that is representative of their style and listen to them for an afternoon's entertainment. I enjoyed my J. D. Souther playlist, especially the duet with James Taylor. The music world has lost a good one. Sad to see him go.

I was telling a colleague just the other day about Mr. Souther.

RIP, Mr. Unofficial Eagle, you wrote and performed some wonderful music.

RIP, JD. I have enjoyed your music since the early years.

Every few years I re-watch the film "ALWAYS" for the vintage aircraft, the witty dialog, and JD's solo at the smoke jumpers dance. Recommended.
