RIP Pat DiNizio (The Smithereens)

DiNizio (from Scotch Plains, NJ) died yesterday at age 62. No cause of death was given, but he had been experiencing some health problems over the last several years.
Pat made a serious run for the NJ seat in the US Senate around 16 years ago, and to finance this, he embarked on his infamous "Living Room Tour", where for a fee, he would come and play at your house.
I attended one of these gigs, at a really nice apartment in Bergen County.... it was a VERY cool and memorable evening.

Sorry to hear of Pat's passing.
For me, the Smithereens' albums seem to a have nice combination of pop sensibility and edgy rock, for lack of a better description. "Green Thoughts" is a good example, and an album that Kurt Cobain supposedly was listening to a lot prior to recording "Nevermind." Pat left us some great music that has undoubtedly had an influence on many others.

Oh no! The Smithereens were the perfect power pop band. I last saw them in 2014 at Federal Taphouse in Harrisburg, PA. They were polished, tight, and talented at all positions, and DiNizio had a real presence. That was a small room. A little before that I caught them outdoors at Flood City Music Festival in Johnstown, and they were just as good in a larger venue.

I read somewhere that DiNizio would come to your house and perform for the right price.

I love The Smithereens. Used to play them on the air back in my college radio days. I saw them live twice, both local shows. Once at ETSU in the student center when I was a student there (11 tour) and again in Bristol TN in a great old theatre on the Blow Up tour. Have all their albums too. Sad news indeed.

That's a real shocker. I have seen the band a few times over the last 10 years. Pat was a perfect front man. Their music was fantastic. Very sorry to hear this, RIP.
