RIP Robert Hunter!

from the article -
“I’m always glad that people are still out there performing the stuff, and the closer they are to the origination, the better,”
he told RS in 2013. “There will be a time when there aren’t any of the originators left.”

Darned - last year it was John Perry Barlow! (October 3, 1947 – February 7, 2018)

Good thing Bob Weir is relatively young!

I guess it had to happen eventually, but damn, I'm sorry to hear this.

See here how everything
Lead up to this day
And it's just like
Any other day
That's ever been
Sun goin up
And then the
Sun it goin down
Shine through my window and
My friends they come around

Amazingly great writer. I had some drinks at a bar with John Perry Barlow and he praised Robert Hunter by calling himself and Bob Weir the Grateful Dead's writing "B team" as compared to Jerry and Robert.

It's the same story the crow told me
It's the only one he know -
like the morning sun you come
and like the wind you go

Every silver lining has a touch of grey.

Thank you for sharing your talents with the world.

RIP brother.

A sad day. One of rock's great lyricists.

Let it be known here is a fountain
That was not made by the hands of men

RIP

What a fantastic songwriter! A sad day for music fans in general, and Deadheads in particular. R.I.P.

I never got to hear Garcia play, but I did hear Robert Hunter once. It was... interesting.

His interview is one of the best bits in the Amazon documentary. Just perfect.

RIP

That's exactly the way I always -- literally -- "heard" the works.

Hunter was such a good lyricist... lines that will live forever - or @ least as long as there are DHs around who remember them.

"Steal your face right off your head."
"Sometimes the light is shining on me."
"We can share the women, we can share the wine."
"Some rise, some fall, some climb to get to terrapin."

Note: "Jack Straw" is perhaps the best example of the very few, but nonetheless moving & successful, songcraft collaborations b/w Hunter + Weir.

^^^ Jack O' Roses will be a good choice to hear today, in memory of Robert Hunter: b. 23 June 1941, d. 23 September 2019.
