RIP Ron Santo

He was a great ballplayer and a greater person. It's a crime he's not in the Hall of Fame. Rest in peace Ronnie.

I grew up blocks from Wrigley in the 60's. Santo, Banks, Brickhouse & others would walk to their cars after the game and we used to wait for them with the other kids. They would sign autographs and talk to us like we were all family. Good people for sure. RIP Ron

Not a Cubs fan, but a huge Ron Santo fan. I'm saddened by the loss. It's terrible he is not in the Hall of Fame.

I was sad to hear the news this morning. Growing up south of Chicago, the Cubs were my team. Watched a bunch of games with my dad. It was a joy to see guys like Kessinger, Hundley, Banks, Monday....

RIP Ron. You brought a smile to my face many times as a kid.

Very sorry to hear of it. Ron Santo was my hero growing up in central Illinois. My dad used to take me into Chicago in the summer to watch at least one Cubs versus Cardinals game. I used to have a photo of myself with Jim Hickman; my dad and I hung around in the parking lot until he came out. It was so cool! I will miss Ron Santo, for sure.

One of the better third baseman of his day in the NL.
I saw him play the Giants a few times at Candlestick Park in SF.

R.I.P. Ron

I grew up right down Addison St. from Wrigley Field and spent considerable time in and around that park. In all that time I saw Ron Santo refuse an autograph request ONCE. It was when he was staggering under the weight of yet another Gold Glove trophy. With a smile on his face he said "not today, boys". In recent years I've been one of his loudest detractors regarding his ability in the broadcast booth. But he was unmatched as a third baseman in the National League during his Cub career. And more important than all of that, he was a tireless promoter for a cure for juvinile diabetes. As a human being NO ONE was better. God Bless you Ronnie. You'll ALWAYS be in our hall of fame. RIP.

It is such a shame this man died without being in the hall of fame. He's been BY FAR the most deserving non-member for what, 30 years or so??? Come on voters, pull your heads out! RIP Ron!

Southsider here, but no saddened by the passing of one of the game's Great Third Basemen (Hall or not). G'bye, Ronnie. :tears:

Wouldn't that be a kick in the teeth. The BBWAA finally pulls their heads out of their asses after he's gone.
