RIP.

I am a big fan of The Band, but never knew too much about Ronnie Hawkins. I would recommend anyone in that position to check out the film Once We Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson and The Band. It's a great movie, and spends a good amount of time on what was basically a mentor-ship with Hawkins. Great stuff!

Man he was totally cool! A man with a solid heritage of music who lived what he sang about!

Many used him as a template to build on, keeping his music alive in the minds of the many who took in his concerts.

He lived a long life, despite some of his past life style styles, grooving to the music that he was a part of.

I never put 2 and 2 together with The Band's previous name being The Hawks. I also confused him with his cousin Dale Hawkins.
