RIP Roy Allison

RA died peacefully yesterday at the age of 88. I will leave the conditions and details for the immediately family to release publicly.

His work on boundary interactions, AR speakers, Allison speakers (and his other brands) have brought a lot of joy to the world. I have it on good authority he was also a classy guy.

I have the Allison Ones, Twos and Fours. Tonight, I will be firing up the little Fours and spare a few thoughts for for Roy; Roy was once quoted as saying the Four was his favourite design.

From all I've read he was a real class act. A week ago I setup my Allison CD-7's. I've had these since they were new in the 80's. Don't understand why I had let them sit for so long.
 
sad to hear this as he was an industry giant and quite an innovater. he was also one of the few remaining speaker designers that understood the special requirements of acoustic suspension speakers and room interaction.. RIP.

That's funny!
When I got my Allison's I KNEW the push-pull design was there and I was ready to enjoy it.
However, when I first saw the pictures (advertising) of the woofer reversed, my brain had trouble processing it.
Like yourself, the results were pleasing indeed.

My first experience with the Allison speakers was when a friend has some speakers needing repair and passed them to me. Just some oxide build up on the tweeter wire and brass posts. I set them up on top of my floor standing speakers (not ideal) and was extremely impressed by the bass from these little guys. I also notice, when watching some movies, that sometimes it really sounded like there was a helicopter or something just outside my apartment, or behind me... an effect I hadn't really experienced with dynamic/box speakers until that time. And it all started from there...
