The legendary blues drummer and inductee in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame played with Little Walter, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, and was a founding member of the Butterfield Blues Band. He also was Bob Dylan's drummer for his controversial electric set at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival.

He died in Chicago on Saturday, at age 86.

A very sad loss. A great drummer. And bluesman. His work was always superb, and those Paul Butterfield albums were classics. R.I.P. Sam Lay. Thanks for making our world sound better.

Sad. RIP Sam.

I saw him probably 25 years ago when he was fronting his own band. Great show and a kind man.

I bought his CD and he and the band autographed it. Even had a little chat between sets.
