Ripping HDCD CD's to computer?

vincei

aka MasterControlMedia
Is this possible? I can play my 2 Joni Mitchell HDCD's on my computer with Windows Media Player and it reads the HDCD signal but when I rip it, nothing. There is a difference in quality especially loud passeges, which are distorted (clipped) unless played back in HDCD processing engaged. Is the HDCD info seperate from the extracted audio? :scratch2: I hate using that LOUD DVD ROM drive.

I have no no problem ripping HDCD with Exact Audio Copy. However, playback is not through WMP, but through my Roku Soundbridge to an external DAC that decodes HDCD. The HDCD always comes on when it is an HDCD disk that was ripped to my hard drive. I am ripping the CD to FLAC files.

Hmmm, interesting. Maybe it's a limitation with WMP...I will try EAC again, I was using iTunes to rip to WAV, I'll see if that makes any difference. Thanks!

How do you rip cd to flac? I have a mac with ITunes and Titanium Toast. What software would I need to rip CD to FLAC? Exact Audio Copy?

I don't use Macs so I don't know. My best suggestion to to Google FLAC and Apple.
