I bought an SAE 2300 amp and unfortunately it arrived with a problem. I guess the seller has no sense of smell, because they claimed to have plugged it in. I would appreciate any advice the experts can offer. Should I replace what is burnt, go for a full recap, use as a boat anchor, other suggestions? Thanks!

find out why it burned up, replace the burned up parts, replace the parts that aren't working anymore and may have caused the charring and then if the unit does not work troubleshoot the issue fix it and then decide if you want to keep it.
 
Any SAE I had to fix seemed to need damn near a complete rebuild of the burnt up channel. Test everything and rebuild as needed. They are worth it.
 
Looks nice and easy to work on.
The two sides of the board look mostly symmetrical which will help with troubleshooting.

I assume one channel is working? If the power supply checks out ok and the output boards check out ok the problem must be isolated to a component on the charred area of the board.

This ^^^ - replace only parts needed to get it going again, or were responsible for the burn up - when it is fixed and working, have a listen - see if you want to keep it, then you can consider restoration work.

Hello Aptone. Check the bottom of the damaged PCB. The heat may have damaged the tracks. Clean the board gently. Be very careful with the removal of parts. Pads and tracks can separate from the PCB.
 
You most likely have blown outputs. In that situation, I'd recommend replacing pretty much everything on that bad channel. The BOM isn't too bad. For budgetary purposes, replacing all the semi's in the one channel, your BOM (minus caps and resistors) is going to look something like this:

Thank you all for your responses. You have given me hope. If it wasn't clear, the boat anchor comment was a joke. I do want to keep it. I was planning to pair it with an SAE 2200 and a 4000 crossover to biamp a pair of ADS 910s.

Since my technical skills are limited to woodworking and speaker refoaming, and as much as I would like to more self sufficient, I am thinking this is way over my head. I have a tech I have been using for years and he is awesome, but I recently read on his website that he is not taking any work at the moment because he is so backed up. If he balks, do any of you have an interest in working on this?
 
OK, my regular tech said he would take on the patient. Thanks to those who offered to help me, and to Mr Fungus for posting the bill of materials. I appreciate it.

Can anyone point me to a schematic for this model? It seems to be hard to find.
