Robert Johnson would have been 100 tomorrow

The Dude Abides
Robert Johnson, the Delta blues legend, would have been 100 years old tomorrow. Thanks to you (and the devil) for some great music.

Was listening to the story on NPR this morning while running errands. No idea he had written Come On In My Kitchen, a favorite of mine on Cassandra Wilson's Blue Light 'Til Dawn. :music:

Wow...thanks!

Is today tomorrow, or is tomorrow yesterday? Or is yesterday's tomorrow today?

Which of Robert Johnson's LP(s) are the best sounding LP(s)?
Does Robert Johnson's LPs 'sound better' than the gold CD, or regular total compilation of all his music double CD? (of which I have both).

You probably already know this but...there are only 2 known photos of him. Find a third and you would be a very rich man. Never ever even heard of any known autograph by him. I know his 78s sell for $2500 plus on eBay on a bad day, when they come up, which is very rarely.

Would a framed Robert Johnson 78 record be cool or what!!! :>)

Happy 100th Birthday RJ!

Put it this way: the man's intangible gifts --the music he wrote and performed-- have had a significant impact on subsequent music and given him a legendary status. However, he led an itinerant life, and left few tangible things behind. Any time you find a tangible link to this man's life, it will be highly valued.

His story makes me wonder how many OTHER itinerant blues musicians of his era were NOT recorded at all, and who ended up completely forgotten. Sure, many of them may have been less-than-great and not worth recording... but how many "forgotten greats' were among them, whom we would revere as we do Robert Johnson, if only we had recordings around to tell us how they sounded? :dunno:

I had the house to myself last night, so I got to listen to all 2 hours of Saturday Night Blues with no interruptions, and with the volume at a healthy level. A lot time was devoted to RJ. His versions and some covers of his songs, and a short interview with Honeyboy Edwards. A solid episode.
I told my wife about it and she said, "well, we'll have to listen to some Robert Johnson tomorrow morning". Um, OK. I spun the Mastersound version of King If The Delta Blues Singers. :music:

I have a copy of Cristen Craven Barnard's "Deal At The Crossroads" painting hanging my living room.
