Robin Williams

qdrone

Music is my mistress
Whenever he is on a talk show I go out of my way to catch him because you never know what to expect.
Lately through I have come to the conclusion that when it comes to his film work I prefer when he tackles dramatic roles as opposed to comedy. Some of my favorite are Dead Poets Society,Good Will Hunting,One Hour Photo.
Last night I watched a SY/FY movie with him in it called The Final Cut and found the screenplay to be original ideas, the concept of the movie hadn't been done before. If you like SY/FY that doesn't take place in the not to distant future,in other words maybe 20 years down the road check it out.

When he was young, goofy worked well for him.. now that he's gotten older, not so much.. .I agree, any more I like him playing a serious role.

Agreed! His comedy ran it's course.
Loved him in:
Good Morning Vietnam
Doubtfire
Dead Poets
Goodwill
Insomnia...

(Have not seen Fisher king)

Did anyone ever see the film he was in directed by Bobcat Goldthwait?
"World's Greatest Dad"

I like what he does, but one thing he can do well is scary. Not spooky scary, but creepy scary. The worst kind as its pretty believable.

We were big fans of House so i rented Dead Poets Society a couple week back to see the actor who later played Wilson in House ...
I'd forgotten that Dead Poets was a Peter Weir film - some glorious photography.
But Robin's SciFiction stuff is quite cool - "What Dreams May Come", is an amazing film and just beautifully done,
and "The Final Cut" was surprising when I first saw it!

Insomnia, and One Hour Photo are truly creepshow films ...
ugh!

The pinnacle of his career was obviously Bicentennial Man.

;)

Actually I kind of can't stand Robin Williams. World's Greatest Dad was great, though. Loved it.

P.S. If you start calling science fiction "SY/FY" just because a cable network did an ill-advised rebranding, you are ruining the world. ;)

Not really a Robin Williams fan. However I really thought he did an excellent job in 'The Fisher King'.

What Dreams May Come is definately one of his best. Very dark, very creepy, but simply amazing.

I am another Williams fan when he does serious work. Caught the second half of "Awakenings" recently. Based on a true story and he does an excellent job.

Another good crossover from comedy to serious is Tom Hanks. Watching "The Green Mile" lately. Everyone is good in that one.

I liked the combination of drama and comedy he did in "Patch Adams" based on the true story of a real doctor. Definite fan of "Dead Poets Society" though.

Does anyone still have those rainbow suspenders he made popular, back in the 70s? Those things would MAKE you cool, even if you were a nerd or a goofball. :D

If I ever happened to run into him I'd say "nanoo nanoo". Then I'd tell him how good he was in Forrest Gump. Then I'd walk away.

His role in "One Hour Photo" is stellar. He plays the creepy role so well. I'll admit that I was a wuss and had to watch it with someone else in the room because I got freaked out. :o
