Rock-ola 50485A Floor Speakers.

I was given these today. Can’t find a thing on them. Rock-Ola 50485-A. Anyone have any information at all? I’m going to take the old grill material off and check them out. But online has been nada on results for a jukebox manufacturer who made stand alone floor speakers.

The word quadphonic is a bit odd as well. Quadraphonic was a thing in the mid 1970s. I wonder if "quadphonic" was a trademart of theirs.

Considering the apparent age of these speakers, I'm surprised the foam grilles are still intact.
 
That was my error. You are correct. It’s quad phonic on the label. I hooked them up very timidly to an older receiver. Yes they need attention. But amazing sound. The covers are permanently attached so I’ll have to cut them off.

Before you cut through the front, make sure it's not accessible through the back...
 
I am. It is through many screws. But I definitely need to see the condition of the foam surroundings. It’ll be a project for sure. But the sound is so warm. It’s worth trying for free speakers. Just wish I could find SOMETHING on them regarding information.
 
Sometimes the foam is held on with basically velcro on the face of the speaker, but I guess some may be glued. Expect it to turn to dust if you try and remove it though. I made a set of grilles for a pair of Bozaks I had that originally came with foam. Just a basic rectangle with a cross-piece made from some cheap lumber. I bought a package of magnets from Amazon and drilled holes to countersink them in the face of the speaker and the back of the grille frame to hold it in place. Wrap the frame in whatever cloth you like.
