The two things that really drew me to tubes were the heat and tube rolling.

I have been looking for the Rodrigues cartoon that shows the husband telling his wife that he wants new speakers. You next see him laid out in a speaker casket. Priceless. This was a late 60s or early 70s Stereo Review cartoon.
