Rodriguez, 60 Minutes

Incredible story about poor (and very humble) guy in his late 60's in Detroit who recently found out that he was a musical icon in S. Africa. Recently played there to sold out venues and standing ovations. He was greeted in S. Africa with limousines at the airport.

Saw it last night, interesting story that perhaps says more about marketing than music. The Taylor Swift story that followed was interesting as well. A gal who's a marketing wizard. Heck of a head on those small shoulders.

He's been an icon here in Australia as well at least in my life.

I've always been astounded by this guy and his music:thmbsp:

Yes, thanks. I grew up in Detroit- incredible number of good musicians still there- lots of them came from the south to work in the auto plants or to entertain same.

Searching for Sugarman is incredible, do yourself a favor and go see it.

Glad to see Rodriguez getting some recognition even if it is 40 years later than expected

Hey Now,

I met him while clearing customs in Vancouver, B.C. in October. Very nice guy, very humble. We chatted about his music and new found fame. He was traveling light, just a carry on and his guitar in a soft case along with a companion.

Finest kind,

I hope he gets the popular recognition he deserves in his homeland. Aussies, Kiwis, South Africans and Poms (and possibly some other Europeans) have often wondered about this apparent oversight. I've attributed it to his anti-drug message which may have been misunderstood and considered as pro drug. That's just my private musings. :scratch2:
