Well done. That's one of the things AK is supposed to do, isn't it? You know, opening up horizons and such?

NJ, I love Brazilian music! But I find that as with classical, Cuban, African and other types a lot of the time it's like rabbit holes. It's harder to find your way around than with the stuff we are more familiar with or at least exposed to.

Thanks for the link. I'm going to tuck my ears back and dive in! :)

Sepultura would have been on the top of my list

Theres two sepultura albums in the list. I never got into them though. I prefer the more main tream brazilian rock of the 80s/90s. The album in my. Avatar is in the list.

There are some notable names missing on the list like Djavan, cazuza, Barão Vermelho and im sure many others.

Os Mutantes
Os Mutantes
Polydor (1968)

Listed @ #9. This LP would have been my #1 of these 100 albums.

Missing altogether from the list of 100, an LP I would have rated in the top 10:

Lula Cortes & Ze Ramalho
Paebiru
Solar (1975)

I have a copy of #4 on the list Chega de Saudade - João Gilberto (1959, Odeon).
.50 cent Danville Ky goodwill find...Excellent shape and sounds amazing.

I believe this is the album that i spired charlie bryd when visiting brazil to essentially bring bossa nova to the usa and he then recorded with getz Jazz Samba album in 61 which started the bossa nova boom around the world.

I'm glad I found this thread, as it just so happens that the majority of what I've been listening to the past few years has been Brazilian music.

I started teaching myself Portuguese in 2012 and I can speak it fairly decently now :D

Conheço vários artistas e bandas brasileiros, mas ainda há muitos que preciso conhecer :music:

Some of my favorites are Legião Urbana, Barão Vermelho (and Cazuza), Los Hermanos, Os Mutantes, os Novos Baianos, Elis Regina, Maria Rita, Cássia Eller, and a very new one, Banda do Mar.

Awesome, good for you! I am an expert in Brazilian Rock from the 80s so if you need any pointers i can guide you to some interesting stuff even stuff not that popular butbthat was great. Barao and Legiao are long time favorites of mine, butbthere so much more interesting brazilian rock from those days: ira! (On the rs listbtwice), plebe rude, ultraje a rigor (on the rs list), titas all those being mainstream...but many others not so main like Violeta de outono which was a fantastica band that only did 2 albums and had a really great sound kinda pink floydish, pyhscadelic rock. Here is a sample of one of there great songs:
