Rotel Amplifier Model RB-1582 MKII to XLR or not XLR

I never planned on getting a Rotel l RB-1582 MKII power amplifier but the junk dealer just didn't know what he had. I've spent $120 on dumber stuff before.

I've never used home equipment featuring a XLR input.

I know that XLR is superior for longer cable runs, and rejection of signal interference.

But in home audio is XLR sonically superior to RCA if my cable runs are a few feet and i hear no interference with current RCA cables?

Will i hear more or different with XLR vs RCA? I don't hear any noise or signal interference with RCA cables right now.

There is a rotel preamp with XLR out near me that is a bit pricey.

There are tons of preamps near me with only rca out.

Thoughts?

P.S. The rotel sounds amazing, far better than my marantz pm-15s2 special edition which is now in preamp duty. The rotel manages to be bold and not harsh like the denon POA power amps, and smooth but not boring like the yamaha MX power amps.

Do you have a component upstream that will connect via XLR to the amplifier? If so, what is it? And is that component also equipped with XLR inputs?

There are 2 things to consider, XLR connections and Balanced XLR connections

If both the source and Target units are not Balanced then you may just be swapping cables from RCA to XLR
one rotel preamp is fully balanced out. To my amp that is fully balanced in as one option.

So i am looking at a rotel preamp that is fully balanced out. The Rotel RC995. It has one fully balanced output. Only RCA inputs into the preamp.

You need to study or research Balanced format wiring for audio and why it works best.
Second XLR connectors are self wiping pins , so pull them out and pop them back in and you have clean contacts.

That may not apply to El Cheapo XLR,s but does apply to Neutric , ITT Cannon etc.

Read the owners manual carefully to find out the difference in input/output voltage using the RCA vs XLR. On my Parasound JC2 BP preamp and JC3+ phono amp using the XLR cables upped the gain 6db per leg (12 db total) - it was way too loud and I had to switch back to RCA cables to keep the gain/volume under control.

A onkyo p-303 preamplifier is on its way. So no XLR for me.
