Better than a step-up transformer? Personally, I just consider it an alternative which offers features you can't get from a step-up transformer.

Headamps are probably even more of a specialised item than step-up transformers (and an even more tiny market for them) but they have their place and now there's one more to choose from. The Headspace is particularly useful for cartridges like Denon's DL-110 whose output is too high for a lot of MC inputs and a bit too low for many MM inputs. It's also useful for anyone who has a valve MM-only phonostage.
