I was wondering which other Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music albums carry on in the same style (and with the same level of quality) as Avalon, Boys and Girls, and Bete Noire (if any). I have several other Roxy albums (For Your Pleasure, Siren), but find myself drawn to the atmosperics, style and production values of the 3 aforementioned albums. Any other essential Roxy/Ferry albums of this ilk?

I was never a big fan, they were OK, until I really started listening to the production and "space" qualities of the music. Now I am on a tear to get all I can. I don't remember the name of the first record, I have it on tape, but it is really out there.
 
How about Mamouna? I've got some weird EP cassette with only 5 tracks and I've been meaning to pick up the full version. Sometimes I go on a run of Boys and Girls, Bette Noire and Mamouna, they seem to fit well together.

I rarely mix the early Roxy stuff with the later Ferry/Roxy stuff. Almost seems like two different bands.

I hear ya. Other than hearing "Love is the Drug" frequently upon Siren's release, my real introduction to to Roxy/Ferry was Boys and Girls, then Bete Noire, and then a reachback to Avalon. Accordingly, that's the style I associate with Roxy/Ferry. I'm now trying to get into the earlier stuff and finding it a bit less accessible. I'll keep trying though.

I like those 3 the best too. Put a Spell on You is a great track from Taxi. Still like any of those 3 more.

True that! My buddies and me at the time all agreed that Boys and Girls was the best album for seducing the ladies. I can testify that it worked on the Mrs. as we both still see it as the soundtrack of our courtship.
 
Viva Roxy Music is very good. I've been rediscovering Avalon lately. What a great album. I need a vinyl copy of that one.
 
Avalon is pretty much my "test record" for DIY project gear.
When Avalon sounds very good.....that means I haven't f*cked something up.....again.

that's robin trower on guitar on 'taxi', and i think he may have played on 'bete noir' too. i've been a roxy/ferry fan since the beginning. for grins, youtube for roxy w/brian eno. kinda jaw dropping....

A live ep is worth looking for. Side 2 has their covers of Neil Young's"like a hurricane" and the best cover of John Lennon's" Jealous Guy" I've ever heard. Jealous Guy brings me to tears it's that good.:tears: and I crank that side whenever it hits my turntable.
