RPM Speed and wow android app

Saw someone using it on a youtube video and had to try. Seems to show 33.5rpm when the strobe shows 33.3, but the wow stats are interesting. Test procedure is to put android phone on top of a roll of packing tape on center of player.

Here are some results of my turntables, I would be curious what others find with their turntables.

Thorens TD124/II - 0.10 percent
Technics SL3 - 0.111 percent
PIONEER PL-L800 - 0.03 percent
COLUMBIA GP3 - 0.334 percent
BRAUN PORTABLE - 0.25 PERCENT

Haven't tried the packing tape method, I'll give it a shot when I get home. I've used it before and got similar results on my TD145 just placing it on the mat.

I found that centering it seems to improve the readings. I was quite surprised by how well the PL-L800 measures. I think I will let my Thorens warm up longer and try it again, that result was just after turning it on.

The neat thing is the graph for wow, on the pioneer it appears more or less sinusoidal, but on the thorens it is more complex, I can see the period of the pulleys and idler mixed into the sinusoudal wow.

I'm going to try this with all the turntables which pass though my hands, it is quite a neat app.

I just redid the 124 and at switch on it now gives 0.10, I must have remembered that one wrong... curious what it will do in a half hour after it warms up

I bought the PlatterSpeed app for iPhones, and paid good money for it, too. The authors failed to update it to 32 bits, Apple quit supporting 16-bit apps, and it became a useless POS. Shame on them.

I have RCA 5963/12AU7s on the driver board and 6550 power tubes, a weber SS rectifier. I also have a set of KT-120s
They looked taller. I built the ST-70. I tried various output and drivers. The KT-77's won out for power tubes. I liked the RCA clear top 12au7's, but after trying ecc99's, e80cc's, 12bh7's, ect., I found the e80cc in the center with 2 old stock 12bh7's really sounded good. The center gain tube effects the tone the most. At some point try and give an e80cc a shot in that center position. It made a real difference to my ears for the better.

Ok, I just tested the Orbit custom I have as a second deck. It came out 33.38 like the AT table did, but wow was .23!

These figures are just gobbledygook. With no published specifications for the 'phone angular resolution, and no information given on how the numbers are derived (means, averages, time periods used), they mean nothing.

Perhaps, but as a relative comparison between different turntables tested with the same phone, there appears to be a lot of consistency with specs. All of the direct drive tables in this thread appear to have results in line with their specified values.

The published specs for the Orbit are .125% for the wow and flutter. The app had mine at .23%. My AT 1240 measured. .08%, pretty close to published .1%.
