rs1b, I hope that you don't mind all the questions, but this is a great opportunity for me to understand these speakers, and I want to know all that I can about them, especially the crossover components. So, along with the above comments that you made regarding the Graz EMIMs, your extra tweeter and mid crossover mods, I also have the following questions:
1. You mentioned that bi-amping is the best way to go with these speakers, but could you expand on that? Why wouldn't tri-amping with a 3-way active crossover be better? I understand the extra cost of another stereo amp, but wouldn't it be possible to remove every passive crossover component, and the control module at the top of the speaker, EXCEPT for the 20mh inductor and 700uf capacitor on the 2 ohm coil of the Watkins woofer? I also realize that a person would also need speaker measurement software to set the individual speaker levels using the active crossover. So...is there a reason why some of the passive components on the EMIMs or EMITs need to remain, and can't be removed?
2. If it still is best to bi-amp, and I get a 2-way active crossover to split the Watkins woofer from the EMIMs/EMITs and set the switch to bi-amp, then which of the passive components WILL NOT be in use any more? Basically, if I choose to upgrade the caps, which ones would I not have to worry about?
3. If you're really feeling energetic and not tired of my questions yet, I'd love to know the reason for each inductor and capacitor value in the crossover (and the values). For example, I can see that the inductor and cap on the EMIT circuit looks like 2nd order 12db/octave slope, but the 3.83uf cap value and .2mh inductor value don't match what I see in crossover calculators for a 5,000 crossover. Why is that? Also, the EMIM circuit doesn't resemble a 12db/slope bandpass circuit.
