RS-4000, Ordered wrong sized Mid surround?

If you know anything about Infinity RS-4000 speakers I could use a little help! Im right in the middle of replacing the surrounds for the mids and woofers of my Infinity RS-4000 estate sale finds. Ive cleaned up the cones and metal faces on the woofers and everything is fine there so far.

But Im having a problem with the midrange spkrs.... I ordered 3.5" surrounds for the mids and these seem a little small for some reason. The foam edge covers the spkr cone well enough but the outer edge just BARELY makes it over the edge of the metal face. If you look at the old glue marks, they extend about another 1/8th of an inch past the new surround edges. I havent glued them in yet. Did I order/receive the wrong size surrounds for the midranges?

I recommend contacting Rick Cobb - looneytune2001 on ebay. He'll hook you up with the proper surrounds for your mids.

Yeah, you have the wrong ones for the mids :(

OBTW - the bass will respond nicely to replacing the caps in the crossover. Same value, just higher voltage rating and poly will do the job :)

Thanks for the info! I'll take the advice on R/Ring the crossover caps. Should I replace them all? Would you know where I can find a schematic for these speakers? Where do you recommend buying the caps?

Erse Audio is a good place to buy caps. I use ther film caps, except when the values are high, then I switch to their electrolytics.

Lee.

slimpikkins thanks but I need the schematics for the RS-4000. These are for the RS-4000A which appear to be different from the RS-4000...?

If the crossover appears all original I would stick to the values that are there. Most likely the componets are all marked well. If not then you may be able to build one from the rs4000a schematic. I think the drivers and cabinet volume are the same in both models. It is well documented that many pairs of Infinitys have different componets then their schematic. Maybe someone will come up with a copy of the rs4000 manual.
