RSL Elans for $100 good deal?

Babystrummer

Love 1 woman many guitars
Hi, I just got a chance to get some RSL Elans for $100 and would like any advice you all may have. I have a Pioneer SA-TU 9500 and I use it only for music, both digital and vinyl.

I will be able to test drive them with my amp but it's a ways away so wanted to make sure it was worth the trip. Right now I am using some low end Technics SB-L51's that sound pretty lousy to me.

Any advice is appreciated, I would like to get these today if possible so quickly would be great!

Thanks everyone.

Pretty well made speakers as I recall. Be sure and check the rear-mounted passive for breakdown of its surround. I believe they employed a Phillips cloth-dome tweeter which is pretty sweet. They like a bit of power to open them up. As I recall, there was a controversy / law suit brought by JBL against RSL around the time these came to market. I truly don't remember if it was the Elan model that JBL was claiming some type of infringement on their L-100 design. I do know that comparisons have been made between the 2. For a Benny, I'd take the plunge!

The cabinets are very well made and you can bet the passives need to be refoamed. Well worth a 100 bucks to me.

I have a pair. I think they are worth every penny of $100.

The rear passive foam will surely be rotted away, but you can buy foam or new passives. They are just a disc.

There is a rear firing tweeter as well.

The ones in that link/pic are missing the legs.
