RSL Speakers -- coming back!

I was just researching some unknown bookshelf speakers that I thought might be RSL Speakers and found this interesting news on their website:

"Designed by the original designer of RSL Speaker Systems. These speakers will live up to the quality tradition of the RSL brand name. This is not a situation where somebody uses a once-quality brand name to exploit it."

Are you friggin kidding me?!!! Wow! I miss the store we used to have around. Had some prick not taken it over and did a bunch of mis-appropiation of funds and embezzelment to force them into BK, it would have lasted longer. They carried all the good gear, including speakers and at the best prices around. One could get anything from cheapo to OMG there. I remember anyone in the neighborhood who got a pair of their speakers were to be admired back in the day.

It would be great if they brought their stores back as well, but that won't happen in this economy, they would never make it no matter how well it was run.

..I am AMAZED that they are even trying. It's beyond horrendous right now.

But as my Dad said, "what are people supposed to do, just stop everything and give up?" And yes, he was referring to the current economy.

That's really nice to see Howard getting back in the game after all these years. The biggest difference between 1992 and now is that general speaker performance has improved dramatically across the board (except for the cheap Chinese crap available). I could see Howard opening a small retail space / showroom in the San Fernando Valley so people could hear the speakers first hand, but that would be about it.

One of RSL's competitors back in the day was Ken Crane's, which is now liquidating after 50 years in business. About the time RSL pooped out The Good Guys were moving into Southern California in a big way and they've been out of business for years now as well. Stores like Adrays and LA Tronics have also come and gone. The only remaining indie chain that has been able to survive is Audio-Video Center due to their ability to sell lots of Sony flat screen TV's! I don't see how they can do it in this economy, but they are actually expanding! I wonder if they are a front for money laundering? (lol)

Adray's gone... :tears: I first learned about that place from my Uncle, when I was a little kid visiting his place and we went there to get some parts. Went back often later on, during college years, whenever I needed something "geeky". That place was the BEST - had everything a gear geek could ever want, and the attitude didn't suck too badly, as long as you knew what you wanted! R.I.P., Adray's!

Well, the building and sign are STILL there on Chapman Ave in Orange. Nobody ever took it over. I wish it was still filled up too !

Back to the original topic - RSL were great for good prices. I have a pair of something in the garage in a box, need refoamed. I keep forgetting about them. 8 inch three ways.
 
I had some RSL at the top of my list before I found my Akai speakers. I felt I could hear some of those RSL just looking at them.
