How can you tell it's a scam? I haven't seen a CL scam where the owner includes his name, address (cross streets) and phone number on the ad. Usually, the scammer only includes the CL email.

EDIT: I see where several folks have placed ads pegging this guy as a scammer. FYI, the RT-909, SX-1080 and the 2270 ads show the same phone numbers but the names are different, Richard or Dave. I tried contacting him, but went to voicemail.

Here's the thing. That is an obscene deal for that RTR. It's worth what, 3 or 4 times that? And yet it's still up after a week? That seems unlikely.

Also, who volunteers to ship in a Craigslist ad? Who volunteers to ship a 50-lb reel-to-reel that's already wildly underpriced?

And yes, I know it's a scam--I recognize the ad. It's that scammer scumbag with all the other ads for the 2270, 1280, and yes, he's had a 909 up as well.
 
It is not a 1000 buck machine, maybe 500-750 if one needs to have an RT-909, but as stated this is a scam posting that has been on CL around the country. That 0171 on the counter is a dead giveaway. Of course there are those that bid up the serviced and fully serviced machines to Pioneer Tax levels which is just fine. Just goes with the territory.

My apologies, you are right. There's someone locally who had one up for like $1200 and I figured the going rate was closer to that. Good catch.
 
This is a bullshit ad. We had the identical ad running here in the NJ / Philly area CL about six months ago, same pics and same description verbatim. It was taken down and put back up a number of times and then a warning ad was posted by another Craigslister that it was a scam, guess the bastard moved on to another town.

He just picks a different CL to post. Works out a shipping deal and leaves with the money. Shipping deal, you gonna drive to Phoenix to confront him for the 500 he got? Been doing this with an RT, 9090db and a few other units.
 
This asshole is at it again here in the greater Philly area. Almost the same phone number, same ridiculous deal and same clueless description. This deck for a hundred dollars, but you may need help moving it since it weighs 200 lbs according to the seller!
