RTR 300D - I took a pass and was wondering if I deprived myself of anything special.

It was a couple of months ago, at an "estate sale", clearing out the contents of a mobile home. I was first on scene and was drawn to a silver face Kenwood receiver, The lady conducting the sale gladly sold me that for little money and more or less begged me to take the large speakers as well. They were floor standers which I have no room for, so I declined. But I did pull off a grill to see what they were.

I was aware of RTR speakers and knew they had some credibility but have never listened to a pair. These RTR speakers were model 300D which I later learned were in a line RTR called Soft Dome Series.

Was that a sensible decision on my part or one I should kick myself about?

i have a pair of those that i refoamed and never got around to repairing the crossovers. They use those crappy black capacitors with red ends. They are sitting in my basement waiting to be finished

Lots of speakers of a certain age had those caps. Some of those speakers were actually quite good until the caps crapped the bed. I would have taken the speakers, but then again I've got lots of room.

Free is always a good price so I would have taken them. You could clean them up and even if you sold them for $1.00, you'd be ahead.

Had a neighbor that was always selling speaker parts on craigs.

Stopped by one day and saw the back of his garage had at least 35 empty speaker cabinets.

Buys the speakers cheap then sells the drivers and crossovers on ebay.

Starts giving me the hard sell... I start laughing, He tries harder, I'm laughing harder.

Week later I see this huge stack of cabinets by the curb.

Even free I didn't see a pair I'd take home.

I know all about the "Speaker" curse!

Easy to acquire, Impossible to get rid of.

I've got a pair and love them. I've gone through a lot of speakers in my time and these are one of my favorites.i wouldn't give them up for anything, in fact I'm sitting here listening to them as I write.
