RUM! Who drinks this stuff?

PIRATES!!!

Pirates drink rum!!! Grog, actually, but close enough- "Grog" is just watered-down rum, after all.

I'm not a big fan, but when I go for that american version of Chinese food (Chicken Fingers, Chop Suey, Crab Rangoon, pork strips, egg rolls, egg-fu-yung, you get the picture...) I like to order Sufferin' Bastards, HeadHunters, Dr. Grogs, and the rest of those "Trader Vic" style cocktails.

Lotsa fun.

Tho Gin and Whiskey and Scotch, even tequilla are preferred otherwise.

I'll be willing to try those fancy rums you mention, however, if you're buying...:D

Nice hat.

Perhaps they keep the good stuff for domestic consumption. :)

I've had both white and dark (anejo blanco and anejo especial if I remember) Havana Club and, while they weren't bad, they weren't anything special. (I prefer Bacardi, for instance.)

Bacardi is also now producing their own version of Havana Club, but I haven't tried it yet. (It appears that they are only making the white version, and I prefer dark rum.)

Hi

Anejo Blanco = Gasoline :)
Anejo 3 años for Longdrings
Anejo Especial (5 años) for Longdrings and Cocktails
Anejo 7 años for Cocktails or puro
Cuban Barrel Proof
Maximo Extra Anejo.....

Bacardi silver mixed with coke and the occasional twist of lime is what I've been drinking for the past 20 years.

Used to like Bacardi Anejo, but can't find it anymore. Now, if I have rum, it's either Meyers or Mt. Gay. I like it with soda and a splash of ginger ale with lime.

Oh, forgot about Appleton.

Yeah that 15 yr. stuff I posted tends to do the trick.

Meyers, good call, I have some of that too. Very sweet but a great flavor. I never tried it with lime/soda.

I'm not a rum drinker per se but Sailor Jerry is pretty damn good. A friend turned me on to it last summer. Can't beat it for the price.

Anyone ever have a Dark and Stormy? It's big in Bermuda. It's made with
Gosling's Black Seal rum and ginger beer( a really strong dark ginger ale)

Well, I tried some Cachaça this weekend.

It's ok with Coke, but I didn't like it for sipping.

I guess I have to try some of the mixed drinks mentioned here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cachaca

It smells ok when sipped straight, but I just didn't like the taste.

On the other hand, I also have some Bacardi Select rum, and it tastes pretty good for sipping. I had a little bit to get rid of the taste of the Cachaça. :)

My first drink was a rum and coke at the age of 21, I was a late bloomer I guess. It happened to be a legally imported bottle of Havana Club Anejo that I brought back from Cuba. Very nice rum.

I have since then developed into a rum snob of sorts.

My favorite is Ron Matusalem. Very smooth and mellow. Its one of the few rums I have seen get more expensive. Tastes like nothing else.

Close behind is Rhum Barbancourt. Very smooth and mellow in the 8 or 12 year variety. A very good price for the quality as well.

Another very distinctive rum is Flor de Cana, either the 7 or 10 year variety. Again tastes like nothing else, smooth but with bite.

I tend to think pretty much every Bacardi rum I have tried is really pretty dull and boring.

For budget rums -- Sailor Jerry's is surprisingly good, but the Cruzan 2 and 5 years dark rums are pretty good and really cheap. My brother like Sailor Jerry's so much he recent bought an entire case of it.

Preferred drink is a Cuba Libre, make sure to use key limes as they make all the difference.

dew.
