Rush: Caress of Steel

Also one of my favorites. Laying in bed at night with the headphones on as a teenager, 2112 was my favorite bedtime music. Many, many nights with that tape. I gave up on buying their stuff when they went of the deep end. Triumph was also played during their first couple albums. I took a Triumph tape out to Cali. before it was available in the record stores out there and introduced them to the crowd but was not well received by the Zep fans. Oh well. My most played rush album now days is their first.

Triumph was a Canadian institution back in the 70's and 80's. Saw them live a few times. those boys could rock. I didn't like all of their stuff did like most of it.
I'm a Rush diehard through and through though, seen them live a bunch of times going all the way back to Hemishperes. Can't wait till May 1st.

Nothing wrong with old Styx, or Santana, those guys could play too. :thmbsp: BroonsBane, you sound like someone who might be familiar with Yngwie Malmsteen (?). I saw him down in Cali with Iron Maiden, back in the 80's. Now that guy can just shred a guitar, and ya gotta love that dragon-fighting art. :smoke:

I'll jump in with a comment on Malmsteen: I remember when he was popular - you heard a lot of him for a short period (maybe 1 or 2 years) and then he seemed to fade away from popular consciousness... and I virtually forgot all about him.

Well, a few months ago who should come touring along to Hong Kong with a concert gigg but Mr. Classically-influenced-ultra-fast-guitar-shredder-par-excellance himself! Interviewed on the radio a couple times before the concert (very decent-sounding fellow). Then the concert itself: man, can that man still move them fingers!!! Had a very talented, well-knit back-up band with him, too. :thmbsp: :music:

Shortly afterwards, I picked up a box full of mostly heavy metal LPs (posted a list of em here) which included some Malmsteen vinyl... with the cool artwork you mention. Very happy to have rediscovered this guy, like a phoenix risen from the distant past! :thmbsp: :D

[...He posts as a Verdi opera sings out in the background...not quite the same thing. :D ]

LOL. :D Sorry for throwing things off-course a little, I guess my mind wanders. I guess my point was, Alex Lifeson & Yngwie are both excellent players. :thmbsp:

Nice to see some other Rush fans around.

What a fabulous, unique band they were and are. I have only one lp, Permanent Waves, its gotten alot of rotation lately. Alex Lifeson gets some wonderful sounds on that guitar, but all three are extremely talented.

I plan of getting Moving Pictures at least and maybe 2112 and Caress of Steel. All are easily found on vinyl.

Caress of Steel is a great album! I have all of their studio recordings. I am a big fan. I was lucky enough to see them during their Counterparts tour.

The only release they put out that didn't do it for me was Vapor Trails. I need to see if it will grow on me. I just have to play it more. I hope the new one doesn't follow the same vein as Vapor Trails. VP seemed less progressive and more like the alt mainstream stuff that is popular now.

It is hard to say which is my favorite, 2112 is right up there though. So is COS.

Yes, I am a huge Triumph fan. :D

I'm still not so sure about Vapor Trails either, although I thought Test for Echo was a great comeback. Best thing they did since Signals. Rush is coming back to Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver this august!! That's the most prime concert venue around here. Acoustics there are awesome! Around $180 a ticket for decent seats now though. Any other local Denver guys want to go? I don't know of any other Rush fans around here who are THAT hard core!

Oh man! If only I could afford to see Rush at Red Rocks, that would be a dream venue to see the world's greatest band :)

While I'm a bigger fan of their older material I really like Vapor Trails, especially Freeze and Earthshine :guitar:
