Hi,

I have a Rega P2 turntable with a Rega bias cartridge and am getting a lot of rumble. It is sitting on one end of a wooden bench next to my receiver. I put felt pads on the feet of the turntable but they had no effect. Any suggestions? Any would be appreciated. When I tap the plinth, I get a booming sound with needle on record.

Thanks,

OK, try to put the TT on piece of foam say two inches thick - one piece on a flat surface. Listen only with headphones (no speaker feedback). Still hear it? Next, get an mechanics stethoscope from the big commercial auto parts store and start listening around the plinth, still with phones - no speakers. You'll hear the source.

If it seems even all around the moving patter, that means it's in the middle - the spindle bearing. Pull the platter and examine it. If dry, clean old lube and any crud REAL WELL, and all rubbing surfaces, then re-lube with light machine oil or sewing machine oil.

If coming from motor area, you have motor issue. Can't help there. Others may be able to.
