RX-397 Durability Compared to Older Yamaha Receivers

Any consensus on how durable Yamaha's RX-397 would tend to be compared to the older stuff? I'm inquiring on behalf of a friend on a fixed income whose smallish Pioneer (SX-650?, 850?) finally gave out after over 30 years of service and he's very concerned with getting a replacement unit that will last a similarly long time for not much money up front.

Thanks

One thing I can say is that the protection circuit on the RX-397 is pretty good...it immediately shut off when I unknowingly hooked up an Advent/3 with a blown woofer...
I was glad I did not see blue smoke rising from the grilles. The only thing I really do not like is that the volume and loudness button have to be used in conjunction on this amp...other than that I like mine. The tuner is pretty good too.
