S-17 H.H. Scott speakers AOK

A nice pair of H.H. Scott S-17 speakers almost fell through the cracks so to speak.
Came with a all in one Scott set up that will need some work .

Really didn't need another pair anywhere but thought I'd give them a listen . Connected them to my computer set up ( Marantz 4060 ) and all I can say is WOW! Nice bass and clarity for speakers 1966 vintage .

The Harmon Kardons ST-20's are history for now .

So if you ever come across a pair well worth a listen .

I have a pair of S-15's and I don't complain about 'em!

The S-15s are quite nice; a little later than the 1968 brochure.

Toward the end of the S-15 production they started using Rola woofers instead of the usual CTS woofers. The Rola woofs have a much heavier build but they used foam surrounds instead of the coated fabric that the CTS woofers used. This one is from 1974. EIA codes indicate Fisher built midrange and tweeter, Rola built woofer.

The Scott S-15 is a very nice sounding speaker, plus it's very amp friendly with it's "controlled impedance" crossover (it's a pretty nice crossover, way more than just a coil and a cap).

Interesting. Definitely the MR is different than the S-15s I used to have (as well, of course, as the woofer). Tweeter looks the same, though. I assumed it was a CTS tweeter... but I never checked.

Grabbed a pair of S-17's a while back. They do sound very nice indeed. Have them powered by a Sansui 4000 receiver. Both about 50 years old. Both sleepers I'd say.

Powering my S-17's with a Sansui A-40. Works beautifully with the bass lifted slightly. How would describe the sound? Very unlike my other speakers. Non-fatiguing, vintage-warm, to my ears.

They reminded me of a pair of AR4X's I had at one time. Just a real solid and good vintage bookshelf speaker. Typical east coast sound...pretty laid back. Yep...non fatiguing.
