I work in Half Moon Bay and live close by. PM me if you can make arrangements with the donor.

very good little amp

I owned a KA-3500 amp (40 wpc; .2% TDH) for nearly 30 years. Clean and versatile without a bunch of do-nothing bells and whistles. If it works at all, it's certainly worth picking up. :thmbsp:

Cool!

VintInfinity BTW here's a nice pre-EMIT Infinity I got just in time to show off at the NW gathering 2 weeks ago. :D

Just got back from picking up all the free stuff. The guy was an old hippie and he was super cool to meet. He was kinda way out there. :) A really interesting story behind why he is giving it away too.

I got the Kenwood integrated amp, the matching tuner, a TT with a cart/headshell in one combo, a tape deck, a vcr, a tv, a tv stand, a bunch of wires, the remotes to go with the gear, and a pair of two way speakers. (no name, but probably sound decent)

He also gave me a big box full of old records that weren't in the post. All have pretty worn looking jackets, but I am excited to hear all the various music regardless of the condition. I got some sort of record cleaning brush to go with those, needs some solution though. He ended up keeping some of his favorites; the Beatles, most of the Hendrix stuff, Greatful Dead, etc. He told me that he had been to 19 Greatful Dead shows, and 4-8 times for each of many others in that stack, IIRC.

And lastly he gave me a print of a photograph he took. A nice sunset on the beach near where he lives. Great colors with some birds flying through the scene, and bit of surf in the foreground.

I offered to bring him some nice beer, but he doesn't drink... only :smoke:, so I gave him a little bit of cash towards that as a show of appreciation for keeping the vinyl and TT for me as promised, even after he got an offer for those.

I will get some pictures later, all of it is still in the truck.

Thank you Susurus for posting this... at least half the fun was meeting him.

Far out maaaan, I'm hip to that

Let's hear that story

peace, dig it

The gear was free, the donation was because he was so damn cool and kept to his promise of all the vinyl and stuff.

As to the story... I guess he wouldn't mind me telling it.

Recently he was told by the owner of his place that they are selling it. He can't afford to rent anywhere else nearby. (maybe doesn't want to anyway) So he wakes up three weeks ago and says to himself; "I'm going to move to Hawaii !!!"

He looks on craigslist, finds a small shack at a price he can afford. So he makes arrangements to get the place, which really is a shack in a grove or something... no real windows, just four walls and a roof; all in a nice climate.

He posts on CL to give away most of the stuff he can't take. He has a plane ticket, and leaves on Monday with a carry-on and a big check-in bag. Only the stuff he really wants and nothing more. He sent some things by freight already. His place was miniature and will be much smaller in Hawaii, so he doesn't have much.

He said he was a vegan and will live off the land. Apparently they have a small farm near his new shack, or the land is just fertile and some people are already doing that. He wants to simplify and get rid of TV and computers, etc, etc. To live at a slower pace of life with less bs.

I salute him, he was awesome.

heh...

Old classmate of mine owns 13 acres on the water in Maui, and runs a jungle slum for old hippies who want to farm his land. They pay him $200 a month apiece to live on the land, have a roof of sorts over their heads, and do what they want on the land.:smoke: He has limited electricity via solar panels, water via cistern, but internet access.

Living in Paradise for $200 a month...not bad!:thmbsp:

I just went to get some of the stuff out of the truck... it even smells like a hippy. LOL

The TT is a Kenwood KD-26R. It has a P-mount T4P cart. The tip of the stylus is worn to a nub. Just a cantilever basically. Maybe it broke on the way home. I don't know.

I think he said the TT was from a rack system, circa ~1987. It can't be great, but if a new stylus is cheap, I will give it a try.

I have to get some shots of the grime on the main knobs of both the tuner and amp... it is epic.

My dad (also my tech) jokes that there is probably some THC in it, if I were to gather it all... :scratch2:
