PIcked this up with other AS IS componenets. Free. The power on light is gone. Checked fuses inside - O.K. cleaned boards and all switches and plugged it in. Guess what ? There's nothing wrong with this unit! D.C. offset came in at about
5mV for each side. Sweet! Haven't hooked it up yet but will do so in the next couple of days. Some days you get lucky...

Well maybe just a little unlucky. When the power is turned on I get a crackling noise from the switch and the switched AC outlet at the back only reads about 70 volts. Are the switches readily available or do I take the one from my TX 6700 and use that?

You may be able to remove the switch and burnish the contacts.
It is a Pioneer sa-6500II ?

If so, the switch is Pioneer part # ASK-065 and is used on the sa-6500, sa-6500II, tx-6500 & tx-6500II .

Others may have suggestions about replacements. I am downloading the s.m. and will comment further later.

You may want to disassemble the switch carefully in a large clear plastic bag, so no essential parts escape.

The last resort is to wire the power switch on, and use a power strip to switch it on and off.

Alternative switch

Thanks for the info Mark. Is it possible to use a modern switch with the original toggle? Yes it is a SA 6500II. Even the last resort is O.K. Is that switch still available from Pioneer or am I insane for asking?

I checked the site: http://parts.pioneerelectronics.com

under sa-6500ii

The part is listed, but no longer available.

If you can find one that fits, or parts (internal?) of one that fits, go for it....

Plus asking if somebody else found a suitable replacement and waiting a while for an answer wouldn't be a waste of time.

The markings stamped on the switch may help find a replacement or something with compatable parts, IF the internal contacts are actually burned away.

thanks again Mark. Will do both - will post for replacemnt and I'll take it apart this weekend and see what it's like inside. Cheers!

SA 6500II on/off switch

Took apart the switch and found that it was easier to fix than I thought. Forgot the part about the plastic bag. Luckily I didn't lose anything I couldn't find on the floor. Turns out that all I had to do was clean the surface of the stationary contact and merely swap ends on the pivoting contact. Next time I'll remember to use a plastic bag! I had to replace the power indicator light as well. After turning it on I checked the DC offset and measured 1.5 and 33. Guess I have a little work left.
