SA-8100 : low volume right channel problem (RESOLVED)

Congratulations!!!!

I was itching to jump in, (and starting to review / disentangle that that terrible manual to do so) but valuable lessons would not have been learned.
This worked out quite well.

thanks Mark. this did work out well! 1 quick question for you, if i may - regarding the replacement driver transistors you recommended earlier in this thread (the KSC2073TU's and KSA940TU's): the 2sd357's and 2sb527's they're replacing have a narrow form-factor, and are mounted on those smaller individual heat-sinks. i haven't tried it, but i don't think the new transistors will fit in those heat sinks (too wide). Is it OK to install the replacements without the heat sinks?

Reference from earlier in thread:
q11 q12 2sd357 npn driver bce to-126?? 130v .8a 1/10w 55-300hfe
512-KSC2073TU npn to-220 bce 150v 1.5a 25w 4mhz 40-140hfe $0.54
and
q13 q14 2sb527 pnp driver bce to-126?? 130v .8a 1/10w 55-300hfe
512-KSA940TU_Q pnp to-220 bce 150v 1.5a 25w 4mhz 40-140hfe $0.54

does it look that close?

Heatsinks are not optional.

Mark - It was a tight fit (exact fit, to be precise), but they do fit. I had to use a two pairs of duckbill pliers to open the 'wings'/sides of the individual heat sinks about 2mm, to fit the new transistors in. once i did that, they do sit flush to the heat sink. before i reinstalled them, i pinched the sides back in, just a hair, so the sinks would fit into the guide holes in the board. So overall, the ksc2073's and ksa940's are suitable replacements, with just a bit of manipulation required with the install. Thanks again!

Wyatt

I am surprised they are that close...

I guess that I'm too used to the later bare aluminum heat sinks. Plenty of room on the sides of those.
