SA-8100 Pre-Out Question

Hi, I have some questions about the Pre-Out functions on my 8100. Are the Preamp Out jacks always "live"? I want to connect them to a Powered Sub-woofer. Will that affect the SA-8100? In other words, can I still use the SA-8100 normally and control my 2 front speakers? Thanks! George

Yes, there is signal present there all the time. When you pull those pins, you separate the pre-amp and amp sections. You don't want to separate the two sections but tap into the pre-out in order to add your sub. You will need to use a pair of RCA "Y" adaptors (2 male to 1 female).

Thanks for the info. My unit doesn't have the jumpers, just jacks and a normal/separate switch. So I guess I can just tap into the pre-amp out jacks then?. George

Have to check the switch configuration in the schematic or test to see if a signal present when set for "normal". ie might not pass the signal in "normal" mode only in "separate" mode!!

So worst case the RCA pre-out and main-in jacks are out of circuit until the switch is separated. In that case, my configuration is still what you want to do but set the switch to the separate position.

I looked at the schematic, when "S8" is in normal mode, there is no signal coming out of the pre-amp o/p RCA jack.
You will need to use a pair of RCA "Y" adapters, all males or "Y" with 2-Males,1-Female & and extension cable.

So ,as I understand it...... I want to set the switch to separate. Use a 2 to 1 "Y" cable on Preamp out. One side of the "Y" goes to Preamp Out and the other to Amp In. Then the single end goes to the Powered sub-woofer. Same for left and right. And that won't cause any problems with the SA-8100 circuits? Something won't feed back into the Amp of the 8100 from the sub-woofer amp?
