SA-8100 what should I be looking for?

A good friend recently dug his one family owned SA-8100 out of storage. It has been stored for basically twenty years. He did say it powered up but hasn’t hooked it up to anything to test. Initial pics he sent, look good. It’s a smoker house hold so if nothing else will need a really good cleaning (have the tools and skills to do that myself).

I have basically agreed at this point to take it off his hands for $250 CDN as I figure it will pair nicely with my Pioneer RT-1020L that I am in the middle of restoring.

Am I correct in my knowledge that there are complete “kits” I can purchase for doing the caps and power supple (my trusted tech would be doing that)?

Any reasons to not give this unit a new home? Reviews online for it look good. I am aware it is not a powerhouse, but again it fits as an era correct unit to pair up with the reel to reel.

I have been keeping an eye for a SX-838 to add to my personal collection. Figure if I can find an era correct tuner and maybe turntable this might make a nice set up.

Thanks in advance folks.

Your power amps need attention too, there are several ticking time bombs in them. Shoot on sight transistors, guaranteed short capacitors and old idle current trim pots.
