SA-9800 Cabinet Replacement Question

Hi guys ...

I have a beautiful, mint-condition, completely restored SA-9800 that sounds amazing .... and some of you may this weird but I would actually prefer it without the wood cabinet.

My question is, is it possible to replace it with a metal cabinet? And where would I find one? Does Pioneer still sell parts like that, since I know the SA-9800 was also sold in a metal cabinet version?

If I used the unit in a rack system would I not need a cabinet?

Pioneer does still carry a few parts for older equipment, but nothing for the SA-9800: http://parts.pioneerelectronics.com/model.asp?modelNum=SA9800

I have a SA-9800/TX-9800 set in matching metal cases. They are a pretty common size for Pioneer metal cabinets, but the ventilation slots will vary.

Does anyone know exactly - are Pioneer SA-9800 metal case and wood case switchable? I have SA-9800 amp in metal case so If I get original wood case then will it fit my amp correctly?

I offered the trade before I saw the wood cabinet that was built for me. He built it around the metal cab and the metal cab can't be removed.

The stock wooden cabinet for SA and TX 9800 is not solid walnut or veneer. It is particle board that has a orange-brown appearance (very smooth finish) that is covered in a very thin (transparent) paper like covering that has a wood grain. The particle board shows through the thin covering and the combination gives it a wood like appearance.

The paper like covering is not like the walnut drawer paper that some folks use to recover the amp. Drawer paper is thicker and not transparent. You can buy this at Ace Hardware. I tried it and didn't like the result.

The problem with the stock wooden cabinets is the thin covering gets torn in spots or peels off. Mine basically fell off in one piece. (one piece per side)

I went to a cabinet maker and got solid walnut cabinets made.

If you get another cabinet, I'd be interested in the one you no longer use. My SA-9800 is missing both the upper case (metal or wood) and the bottom plate.
