SACD Player Thrift Store Score!

Hi fellow AK'ers! I wanted to pass along my latest score and review. Last week I stopped in to the thrift store that happens to be RIGHT ON the way home from work. It's such a temptation every day on the way home to stop in. However, lately they haven't had much in the way of decent audio gear. Well, this time there was a Yamaha CD/SACD/DVD-Audio/Video changer sitting on the shelf for 9.99. I figured, why not? I'm very glad I picked this one up. It's a model DVD-C750. I connected it to my vintage Pioneer SX-8 system first - just to see if it worked. It does work and what a wonderful sounding unit! It does't "look" very much like a high end model, but man does it ever sound like one! I'm playing a Diana Krall SACD in it right now in the main 2-channel system. I must say I am very impressed with it - and this is running through it's own internal DACs. I did a little bit of reading on it via the WWW and apparently it has the capability to upsample CDs as well. It has optical and coaxial digital outputs, but alas no HDMI for DSD output to an external DAC. Not a bid deal though as it sounds great on it's own. If you are looking for an inexpensive way to play SACD or DVD-Audio with a decidedly high end sound, here is one to consider. This one is a keeper.

Sweet! I picked up a Yamaha DVD S657 for $25 a few months back. It is also an excellent SACD player, does DVD-A as well, but no changer capabilities. I haven't tried the upsampling yet mostly because I haven't hooked it up to a tv to access the menus, I am skeptical if I will be able to detect a difference.
Let us know what you think of the upsampling once you have a chance.

Last year I also picked up a very good Yamaha SACD/DVD player at a thrift. Great player!

good deal. Haven't seen a Yamaha yet but I have picked up several Samsungs and Sonys. So many people are dumping DVD players that there are some good buys to be had if you're looking for SACD and DVD-A playback capability. I've even picked up several older generation BDPs although those are a mixed bag - all but two have been Sony and they were purchased specifically for the 2 channel analog outputs; none of them will play FLAC files and the streaming options are limited compared to newer players. Win some lose some, I finally gave up and bought a used Oppo for the bedroom so as to have full functionality there.

I had no idea the older Yamahas did SACD and DVD-Audio. This one does a rather good job of it. Very musical sounding! I have also picked up a couple Onkyo units that do well too. I'll have to try to figure out how to do the upsampling. I'll let you know what happens with that. My Emotiva DAC also has that capability although I haven't been able to tell much of a difference. Come to think of it, my Sony 5400ES HTR also does that. It also plays DSD over HDMI.
