Sacd

Wireworm5

Audiophile
Finally got an Sacd disk. There wasn't much of a selection to choose from so I picked up Shania Twain- Up.
My question, does sacd work like a vinyl lp, but instead of a needle riding the surface a lazer light reads the groove instead. I had an old Sony magazine that explained why sacd is better, but I must have thrown it out.
Thanx

SACD works like CD, except that it has greater resolution and bandwidth.

Only the Laser Turntable made by ELP works like a turntable without a needle!

The information on SACD, in contrast to Vinyl, is a digital file which has to be converted in sound, via a "Digital/Analogue" (D/A) converter.

Hope that helps.

How did you find the sound on your SACD?

Okay I've had time to evaluate Sacd. My reference cd was John Mellencamp- Greatest Hits 2004 Digitally Remastered. First I played the entire Up album then played the entire Mellecamp. Then I quickly switch back to play the song Up while the audio memory was still fresh in my brain. Using my Spl meter I had the volume approx. 95 decibels C rating slow response for both formats.
I asked my friend who happened to be here if he noticed any difference. His response, "How can you compare Shania Twain to John Mellencamp?" No, did you notice any difference in sound quality. "No" he said.
I had a different take. As good as the Mellancamp remastered cd is, The Up song had body to it, sounding full and rich in comparison. Other than that no other words come to mind. I am not just saying this as excuse, I have a great sound system and golden ears.

Congrats on finding the wonderful sound of SACD. Finding selections in local record stores isn't easy, but shopping online as another story. I bitch at every local store I wander into and sometimes the person working there has no idea what I'm talking about....sad really.

Your description, "sounding full and rich" is right on the money. Enjoy!
