SAE A501 on the bay

Strange, it sounds like it's part of his own collection, yet he says: powers on but otherwise untested.:scratch2:

from my own experience, that's a red flag. Ranks up there with with "the owner said it worked fine, but I don't have the equipment to test." and some of these sellers have complete stereos amongst their various auctions, but don't have the wherewithal to connect them? Riiight.

I Emailed the guy, And he is swearing the amp is in perfect working order.
Gonna look into it closer. I do know one thing, SAE stuff is built way over what is called for, And after owning a P-250 in the early 80's, They will
hold there own with anything out there, Plus they are very good looking
pieces of gear.

The 501 has problems with the speaker protection thump circut. There's a set of relays that go bad which prevents the amp from engaging the speakers. Also has a delicate bais range...you will know when it needs adjustment...the HF sound scratchy.

Interesting comment. I own nine A501/2401/P250s (different designations for essentially the same amp) and have had only one problem with them, ever - once I had the power LEDs go out on one. That's it. I find it to be remarkably reliable for a 25 year old amp.
