SAE P 102 ST REV-STEREO-MONO question

Have a SAE p102 preamp. when I toggle the st/rev function speakers cut out.
for example when I press the st/rev - the right speakers cut out. when I deselect this ( I am assuming
it is in stereo mode at this point) the left speakers cut out. when I press the mono side function all
4 of my speakers come on and the sound is fine. Is this normal? I do not have the owners manual.

Sounds like you have a problematic channel. Could be a dirty switch, bad cable connection, or something in the preamp section. In your description, when hitting the mono button, all the speakers work. This tells me that the main amplifier section is working.

The reverse switch just reverses the left & right to reflect right & left.

Deox all switches, buttons, and controls. Mainly deox the tape monitor, loudness control and tone defeat switch if it has one.

The P102 is one of SAE's "Computer Direct" models. I'm reasonably sure that none of the front panel switches act directly on the audio signal path. (Rather, the switches act on digital signals, which end up controlling analog switching chips.) Cleaning the switches might not do any harm, but I'm afraid it's very unlikely to do any good.

I agree that it could be a cabling problem (input cables). If not that, though, then I think it's pretty likely to be an internal electronic fault.

Hey made some progress.. I used higher grade cables. and it worked. for a while.
I move the cables at the back of the tuner and it cuts in and out. i took cover off and deoxit at
the connection area. but the problem persists. I am going to hook up another tuner and see if
I can toggle between mono/stereo/rev/ and stereo mode without speakers cutting out. to isolate
if the problem is with the tuner connection ( which I think it is) or the preamp side? any ideas?

hooked up another tuner. and the problem went away. so its NOT the preamp for sure.
hooked back up the SAE T102 tuner. and the problem is back.. when I move the cables and put
force like physically bending the cables apart a bit it comes back on in non mono mode ( stereo)
sounds like a physical connection?. also a slight buzzing hum. Is there a voltage leakage within the tuner?
anyway.. gonna go back and remove the cover and look more closely.. any ideas?

Tuner jacks may need to be resoldered.

Yea sounds about right. In the meantime I deoxed the area twice. Tied a tension wire on the 2 LR input connections. And working fine now. True Hillbilly mode for now. ...
