Sae p500

I sold a big Crown Comtech 1600, 500 wpc, a while back, tested and in great working order- I barely got $300 for it!! Just a tough market on those pro amps, least it was with me!.
Mine weighed in at 62 lbs, packed properly was 72 lbs- the buyer wanted to beat me up an actual shipping charges as well- finally did pay after some shipping rant went on. I think it was not much worth my time after that.
That SAE looks pretty good, did not know they made a pro amp og that caliber!

Supposedly, based on the Q&A portion of the auction, there is another SAE P500 to be made available soon.

Too bad it is on the wrong coast for me though.

Really nice amps. I have two of the Pro version (P500) and two of the consumer version (A1001) and have found them to be robust, reliable, and able to drive anything. Just watch out you don't herniate yourself moving them.

David,

Do those have fans? Dual trannies? I'm trying to figure out how that beast only weighs 66 pounds!

Chris,

Single massive transformer, no fans. They ditched the fans after the 00 series amps because of complaints about fan noise, redesigning the heatsinks to get cooling via convection. SAE produced stand-alone fan units ("Forced Air Cooling") as options. I have the fan units as well but never use them, I have never had any problem overheating.

Cool. I imagine the single transformer is one way they cut on weight, as well as probably making the heatsinks a more integral part of the amp's frame instead of add-ons like with the PC5002M. I came across this listing soon after it was posted, and I'll be interested to see how it ends. Another ideal amp to drive some inefficient QLS1's or any other super-hungry pair of big speakers!

Frankly, I'll be surprised if this goes for less than $1,000. (A) It's in very nice shape, (B) These are pretty uncommon, (C) There are some really rabid SAE fans out there.

Ok, so to beat David you have to be willing to drop at least a G :D

Hah, no, that wasn't what I meant. I have four already (2 Pro and 2 consumer), can't think what I'd do with another one. I just watch this market pretty closely, and was responding to an earlier poster talking about his monster amp only fetching $300. It's already over $400 and the snipers haven't come out to play yet.

Just playing! Hey, did you see what happened with that Infinity pre last night? $100 to $760 in the last couple minutes, yowza! Do they sound that good or is it just the name?

the thing may be possessed

This is from a estate sale where a successfull wealthy genius went mad and is now in a hospital

Yeah, it blew right past my snipe. They actually do sound pretty darn good, but their rarity is what drives the price up.

Well, the rabid SAE fans came out in force. It closed at $1,914. More than doubled in the last 30 seconds.
