OMG - even MORE sad news - but of a different kind ... Samsung has bought Harman Kardon !!
"This will also give Samsung access to Harman products under more than twenty brands — including AKG Acoustics, AMX, Crown Audio, Harman/Kardon, Infinity, JBL, JBL Professional, Lexicon, Mark Levinson, Martin, Revel, Soundcraft and Studer. Harman also licenses Bowers & Wilkins and Bang & Olufsen brands for automotive business."

Let's just hope that doesn't mean that the quality of those brands drops to Samsung levels. I know some people love the brand but I can't keep one of their TVs, phones or washing machines running.

trouble is no American co. would buy it. No one wants to make that hifi stuff anymore.
it's all phones, computers, mp3 stuff. All made offshore. More US jobs gone.
good hifi stuff is only for us old foogys.

Their loss.I believe one of these days people will realize what they have been missing and an attempt will be made to restore hi fidelity to the masses.Don't know how much can be done with a thin box though.
Samsung phones and televisions are pretty good.Save for the burning batteries.

I sold most of my large JBLs over the last few years - once Sidney Harman passed and Palliwal took over,
I could see Harman was headed somewhere else, focused on car Audio and that kind of newer market.

It still hurts to watch - all I can do is hope Samsung sells JBL (and JBL Pro) off
and someone else (American?) picks them up as a treasured brand (and not just for any intellectual property).

We can hope for an "American Legacy Audio"

My Samsung refrigerator sucks. Cant see how any of the brands that they picked up in that group will help that.
For the most part, those brands have run their course anyway. Maybe Samsung is seeing what Technics is doing and wants in on the action.

... and here I am, drifting towards JBL (in spite of my deeply-ingrained anti-JBL sentiments)
I was never noted for my good timing.

I meant no disrespect with my "old foggys" comment. Because I AM ONE and proud of it.
I think most of us old school audio fans are old foggies ... my first good system was JBL L36 and Yamaha CR-400 with a Philips 212 TT -
kinda why it hurts to see JBL go the way of Altec...

Edit - Okay - not feeling old even tho it obvious applies -
apparently the term we seek is "Old fogeys!" (sometimes Fogies) never Folgers
Not foggys or foggies ...

If Samsung is serious about a major audio player, I think the sale may not be bad.

On the other hand, look at American company Audiovox (or Voxx). It acquired Acoustic Research (AR), Advent, the API brands of Mirage, Energy, Athena Technologies. These once illustrious brands are now pretty much gone. Audiovoxx also owns Klipsch and it has been able to survive. AR also showed a little bit of life lately with its digital audio player.
