I picked up a Samsung DVD-C500 player from my local Goodwill to use as a CD Player for my bedroom system. Sound is fine. It plays CDs fine, except it's quite noisy. It just doesn't really work, to listen to quiet passages of music/recordings with good mastering. The spindle motor is loud. I'd guess from my knowledge of mechanical HDDs, the motor's ball bearings could be on their last legs. Do spindle motors in CD/DVD/BD players use ball bearings? I'm not an expert on this. It's just an educated guess. Is there a way if I open the player up to lubricate the motor mechanism? Could this be the issue?
Luckily I had store credit at the goodwill and they offered me a 7 day return period. Part of me just wants to return the player and explain what the issue is. They have another DVD player available I could try out. As long as someone hasn't nabbed it yet.
The only reason I'd really want to keep this one, is because it looks better than the other one. But if the other one plays better. Well, I'd of course be happy with it. Even though it looks like BOTL cheap plastic crap. Of course. I'm talking about looks not build quality. Both players would qualify as BOTL cheap plastic crap as far as build quality.
Thoughts would be appreciated.
Thought I'd include a picture. Based on looks, I actually thought this was a BD player. I never knew some DVD players used the same look on the front. I'm guessing this look came at the end of DVD's format reign. As it is the standard look for most BD players. Anyways.
