As an owner of both the SX-1250 and 9090DB I can assure you that the SX-1250 is the better reciever. For one, it's got a huge Toroidal Transformer. For two, it's got a Dual Power Supply Design and a much beefier power supply over all. For three, it's got MUCH BETTER shielding. For four, it uses high quality switches. For five, it's got more power. For six, it's got a MUCH better tuner. I could go on and on, but I won't. Don't get me wrong. I really like the looks of my 9090 and the sound ain't bad either! However, the SX-1250 is one of the all time greats and highwater mark for Receiver design. It is simply SUPERIOR to the 9090 in virtually every respect. I agree that the SX-1050, which is in the same power class, would be a better unit to compare it with.
If anything, it's surprising that SX-1250 can still be had so cheaply. If you don't have one, get one quickly!
