San Diego- PS/X6 $30 Craigslist

That's a score indeed... if I wasn't so lazy about going to pick up stuff and the house wasn't so full of stuff I need to sell already, I'd be all over it.

John

I hear you... funny thing is last $30 Sony TT I picked up here in San Diego resold later for $600 (mint PS-2000 with full documentation), but I don't think this one has that kind of upside!

John

I don't think that table has one of the more desirable headshells. The really pricey ones have a carbon fiber "sandwich" around the cart mounting screws and are actually slightly shorter in length than normal (which IMO accounts for most of the value, it's almost impossible to properly align the cart on some of their tables without one)

Yep... there's also the headshell one that was used on the PUA 237 and 286 tonearms, the SH-150:

On the other hand, here's a guy trying to get $80 for one of these, it's in better shape than the $30 one:

Here's the black version from the PS-X7 at $91:

For whatever reason, almost any Sony headshell seems to bring more than the asking price of this table...and it's a very nice table anyway.

My long awaited first post.

I would like to thank Macat and John for inspiring me to buy this TT. I was on AK last night and at first it appeared sold but the guy called me back. It was in ‘da hood’ University and 805. It had belonged to his uncle but he had sold off the other gear, must have been a nice system.

Well I have been getting back into HiFi after a 10 year break. I’ve been wondering around AK for 6 month now but my audio ideas and projects have been all over the place that my first post keeps evolving and revising itself. Let’s just say I have been making up for lost time with new knowledge. I’ve changed my positions more then Mitt Romney has, if only I was as rich as he is. A friend of mine once house sat at a home almost next door to his La Jolla digs. Mitt says he likes the sound of the ocean but does he own a pair of NS1000 speakers? He might own a dozen for all I know.

So I have been redoing my man cave, Jurassic Park, The turntable was too come next summer but at that price. For 30 dollars and if I can find the right cartridges, the bragging (or is that blogging) rights will be worth it alone. My first major post will be coming soon.

In all truth I have a nursing home (shed) full of elderly TT that needs new hips, acrylic cover and clinical care beyond my expertise but this looks pretty decent. As it is raining I also need a dehumidifier
for my man cave, maybe e bay for 30 bucks?

I know everyone will say this is worthless with out pictures, which will come soon.

I’ll give viewings (or listening) soon.

Listen closer, the sound gets better! Basho (or maybe Gary Snyder)

Many thanks,

Michael

Welcome Michael and nice score!

If it needs any work, do a quick google search of the site for some excellent threads on servicing this series of TT. Member thedelihaus in particular has written some very solid posts on that topic.

John

You're very welcomes, I hope you enjoy it. I have a Sony 2251 and I love it.

Thanks a lot!

MacKat

It does need work.

You should fill the center of the screw on the feet with glue and a short chunk of nail to prevent them from breaking when the tt is not placed exactly right on the shelf.

There are other issues that sound be addressed on this table to make it a great long term unit to enjoy. The posts are out there. Search the PS-X7 also.
