Sansui 1000A Main Power Transformer I.D.

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping you tube gurus can help me sort something out.

Got my eye on a 1000A for sale locally and one thing kind of stands out to me in the pics.

The big trans does not seem to have any identifiable markings on it while in any pictures I've viewed of these units online there is a Sansui badge on there.

Is this something that could have been removed in the past or were there some of these that never had any markings on them?

The outputs have the correct I.D. but it seems weird to me that the main one is just blank.

Sign of a replacement maybe?
Not interested if it ain't original.

Thanks.

IIRC, that was a glued-on foil label that sometimes fell off. Of the two 1000As that I combined into one, I think one had it and one didn't.

If I recall --some have them some don't

Thanks to both of you for the info. It's reassuring.

Since we're here ...

He did mention to me that to achieve the same output levels as his 100wpc Mac amplifier he he has to have the volume at half vs at about 1/3 for the Mac.

Sounds about right to me considering the power rating on the 'Sui is less than half of what the Mac is pushing.

Does this make sense to you guys?

Thanks again.

Utter nonsense!

There is SOOOO many variables in determining the volume control position in relation to the sound output on a given amplifier, one is the level of the source, a high output CD player will require you to "turn it down" as compared to a lower level phono input, making you "turn it up" (all for the same level of output), and there is also the way the signal path is designed.

The volume control on another amp. is like comparing apples to oranges, yes, their both fruit (amps.) but little can be gained by referencing volume control positions.

Yes, a more powerful amp. is likely to "play louder" in respect with volume control position in comparison to another lower power amp. but not always the case.

I hear ya :thmbsp:

I was kind of going on the assumption (maybe mistakenly) that this guy had done his best to minimize variables between the systems when he did the comparison. Speakers, source, input, etc.

Keep it all the same save for the amplifier itself basically.
