Hello all. Hope all is well. It's been a long while since I posted on AK, but I need help. I just purchased a Sansui 1000a in original condition. Brought it up on my variac and all seemed. Sounded fine, all switches worked properly and then the red-plating started on an output tube. I know the original caps needs replacing, but when I took a gander underneath, I came to the realization that this is just too much for my novice self. I need a reputable technician. I reside in Louisiana and I'm not aware of a reputable technician close by. I would like to find an honest and reasonably price technician that has experience working on this unit. Any help in directing me would be greatly appreciated.

Don't know about down south as I'm in Md. Changing out the output caps isn't hard on the 1000A, but recapping the whole thing is a exercise in tolerance and patience. Mine was the 1st piece of gear of any kind that I recapped. It took me about a month of 3 and 4 hour nights, going slow and checking everything. It turned out fine. There are some mods that you would want to have done to the 1000A to get you longer output tube life and safer operation. They aren't hard or involved, but can drive you nuts with the lack of space on the chassis.
It can be done by a hobbiest with minimal skills, and lots of time. The worse thing working against you is your desire to have it running last week. It can be done.
Asking the moderators to move this thread to the Sansui forum will get you more interest from Sansui diehards, which , if you end up working on it will get you the guys who know it inside and out. and you might get lucky and find an AK'er that does work on them that is fairly close to you.
