Sansui 2000X dead FM

Hello fello audiophiles:
I've got a Sansui 2000X that works fine except FM is dead. I'm dead-set on working on these things myself. If I can't fix it I'll sell it and buy something I can fix. I can't find-out anything about it. Looks just like a 2000A, but with wooden case. Seems clean and well kept, very very heavy. I'd love to pit it up against my Marantz 2226B, and Onky TX-35 and see how it holds it's own, but alas, no FM. Any help to be had here for a would be tinkerer. Where can I find Tech info without paying out the nose for it?

You can find tech info here of course!! That's why were here. If you are hell bent on fixing it yourself, you will need a service manual. These are life savers when repairing your equipment. It has info reguarding where you may be able to get a service manual. If not, there are tons of others who have experience with these classic sansui receivers. I am not familiar with the 2000 series, but a good place to start is to make sure that the tuner is getting supply voltage. If so, then start looking for open/shorted caps and resistors. Thanks for the help I'll get a service manual. Ironic, I just sold an Oscope on ebay at a loss. Didn't know what it was for. I'll find another soon enough, though. Got entry level electronics text and manual to Hi Fi trouble shooting cc1977, reading. Also lots of buying and selling on ebay. Fairly lucrative on a limited basis. You guys are cool! Glad I found this forum.
 
I have an orig. svc mnl for the 2000x and it does not contain a schematic much to my shagrin. Sansui stuck it in the envelope with the owners mnl attached underneath the unit. The svc mnl has a block diag and alignment procedures.
 
Thakx Sam, I'll have to bust the thing open just to check. Already tried once removing all the little bolts on the bottom and the thing wouldn't budge. Are there any other fasteners I'm just not finding? I'll just have to screw with it. Also, do the 2000X and 2000A differ significantly, because there's a 2000A service manual now on Ebay I might buy if sombody can tell me it's about the same thing. They look very similar, my 2000X has a wooden case and the A has a metal one.
 
X vs. A diff. is 4 watts, mainly, nothing to do with covers/cases. Maybe a weebit of ckt. tweeking . If you feel lucky you mite could swap the FM bd. one for the other X for A, or just fix/align the FM you got in the X(better). X svc mnls come up on ebay now and then and I have an orig.

I thought wood cases were optional extra cost when you bought the unit and that they all came from the factory without them and dlrs sold them.
 
at this point in time it's pretty much a moot subject on the cases. I'd gladly give away my 2 wood cases for my 2000Xs in exchange for the metal ones. I like the plain unadorned look. Just so happened the ones I found had wood ones. And maybe they did come std.
Now the schems. are aonther story. Didn't they come in the envelope attached under the unit along with the owner mnl and fuses and lites?
 
FWIW, I have two 2000A receivers. Both have metal cases, but one has the optional wood case. The wood case is secured with wing-nuts on the bottom. I slid the case off to reveal the standard metal case and the schematics in an envelope attached to the bottom metal plate. Both 2000A receivers have Pre- and Main- in/out on the rear panel. The Operating Instructions show how to use the Pre-Out/Main-In for an Electronic Crossover System. The FM IF Block # is F-1214.

Not 100% same. 2000A F-1214-1 and 2000X F-1214-3A. I know IC's are different. Maybe something else :scratch2:
 
Hey all,
Stene has been helping me through PMs. A little slow at getting around to work on the thing. I've got other projects, cleaning and lamp replacement mostely, a new cord here and there. Selling equipment I buy cheep and don't want funds the stuff I want to have for myself.

FM-1214
F-1190 (multiplex?)
F1038 (AM)

Thing is really dirty. Stene sent me to a site where he says a PDF can be purchased which will contain both service manual and schematic.

First things first though, how best to clean this thing. Usually a good blow does the trick, but this unit has a kind of oily dirt in it. It's like stuck all over. Maybe a smokers unit once, no smell anymore. I'm gonna need some kind of solvent for sure. What products/procedures work best when a really good cleaning is in order?
 
I've been using a camel hair paint brush for internal de-dusting, and Q-tip with isopropyl alcohol for stuff that is less mobile.

Hey, I know this thread is older, but what fm if board do you have? As I am currently fighting a 1214 because I cannot find a schematic for the board. Though I was able to find that the last block of the IF board is not receiving dc voltage. It looks like its getting killed in the adjuster inductor transformer thing. Probably not the best project for a starter, but I've gotten this far xD.
 
Look at the 2000A manual. A lot of mixing between the "A" and the "X" went on during production of both. I say this as my "A" has some "X" boards and vice versa on my "X". I don't have the manuals handy so it's not absolute for your particular unit, but it's a known quantity.
