Sansui 2000X - Sound quality

Johncan

Record collector
I have a Sansui 2000X I use in my secondary system... with Boston Acoutics A80 II's. I was trying to find out more about this receiver/amplier and found some listings for sale. Several of them described it as having a McIntosh-type sound. What you do Sansui experts think about that statement? Do you agree or disagree? Also, how is the phono stage regarded in the 2000X?

Thanks!

John

2000X sound

Well 1st off it's a modest 35 w/rms/8ohms. Sound is a pretty subjective thing. Spkrs most affect it. Judicious use of tone controls/equalizers can make it sound any way you like. My 2000X drives sansui sp3500s but have also hooked it too JBL Olympus system. My old ears say clean, brite (depending on source). My Mac C26 drives a HK Citation 12 amp driving the JBLs. Pretty hard to beat that sound. Never done A/B comparison. Your ears should be the final judge on your system. My gut says Mac would probably sound abit more "tame" than the 2000x.
